All carved an waiting for the bisque kiln. These forms were loosely inspired by the stunning work of Zack Spates who I saw in an issue of Ceramics Monthly (you can go read that article here if you want). I took one (1) geology class in college with such a good professor that she genuinely changed how I look at rocks. When I saw Spates' work I was so inspired and thought of all the beautiful rock formations along beaches in the PNW that I just had to try my hand at some rock-inspired vessels.
And here they are waiting for the glaze kiln! I'm loving how the oxide wash is playing with the textured faces.(bonus peak at Torrent, the rain themed vase. It has its own post here.)
Finished cups! The glaze on these guys is Copper Patina. I'll definitely be making more of these, maybe I'll play with glazes too...
As promised, the next batch is on its way! I'm playing around with a few of them to turn them into more of a seascape. Updates to come!
What to do with all those scraps? Thinking about making some colored slips to play with...
